A CLIMBER was taken to hospital following a 10 metre fall from a Lake District crag, after his bolt 'came free' whilst he was climbing leaving him with head injuries.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) were called to the climber at Bram Quarry Cragg at 7:56pm on Thursday, June 29 whilst on a training excercise.
The climber had sustained head injuries after a fall due to his bolt coming free from the side of the cragg.
He was later taken to hospital via ambulance after NWAS paramedics attended the scene.
Keswick MRT said: "Thursday night's regular training was split into a mountain biking skills session and some ‘social climbing’ on Shepherd’s Crag. This was interrupted by a callout to a fallen climber on Bram Crag Quarry.
"It seems the piece of rock to which the bolt he was using came free resulting in him falling some 10 metres to the ground."
"Team members who weren’t out practicing skills went immediately to the quarry followed by others who aborted their biking and climbing adventures to assist.
"NWAS paramedics were also quickly on scene and treated the casualty who had sustained head injuries. The climber was placed on a stretcher and carried to an awaiting ambulance for onward transfer to hospital."
