Four young Cumbrian athletes came home with medals from the English Schools Track and Field Championships.
There were strong performances from a host of teenagers from the county in the two-day event at Birmingham.
Jess Bailey claimed silver in the senior girls’ 1500m while Hugo Berry also won silver in the junior boys’ 1500m.
There was bronze for Joshua Reibbit in the intermediate boys’ hammer, while Kira Jones also came third in the intermediate girls’ 80m hurdles final.
They were the highlights from the county’s 22-strong team at the championships on the weekend of June 30-July 1 at the Alexander Stadium.
Bailey, from Ulverston, was pipped to gold in the 1500m final by Alice Bates.
The Cumbrian recorded a time of 4.33.19 in the final.
Carlisle teenager Reibbitt, meanwhile, added the hammer bronze to a series of recent accolades with a best throw of 51.89.
Berry, who attends Sedbergh School, then pushed winner Archie Lane close in the 1500m boys final, the Cumbria-based athlete coming home in 4.09.71 in the final.
Kendal hurdler Jones then earned a podium place with her run of 11.29 in the 80m final.
There were a number of other strong performances at the event from Cumbrians, with Vicky Chapman coming fourth in the junior girls’ high jump.
Daisy Woodcock came sixth in the junior girls’ 800m final while Georgia Bell was sixth in the intermediate girls’ 3000m final.
Sarah Smith also came sixth in the 800m senior girls’ final.
