A NEW collaborative project looks to rekindle Carlisle's vibrant brewing history right in the heart of the city centre.
The Halston and Borderlands Brewery have announced their innovative joint venture, 'West Walls Brewing Co', located at the historic Twisted Wheel site on West Walls.
The new venture aims to bring back the city's lost brewing glory and add a new chapter to its rich beer-making history.
Whilst the city has Carlisle Brewing Company, located in Kingstown, the city centre has been without a brewery since the closure of Carlisle Brewery on Bridge Street in 1987.
The new brewery and taproom's proximity to the upcoming Cumbria University Citadels Campus and its collaboration with the neighbouring Green Room Theatre sets the stage for an immersive community hub.
These partnerships are anticipated to attract a diverse crowd, including locals, students, and tourists, fostering a lively cultural exchange in an atmosphere steeped in history.
This venture brings together The Halston's track record in transforming city landmarks such as the former Post Office and Portland Square, paired with Borderlands Brewery's commitment to crafting an exciting range of locally brewed beers and real ales.
Simon Harrison, a representative from The Halston, said: "This dynamic project encapsulates our mission of bringing about urban renewal while enhancing the hospitality experience for Carlisle's community.
"We're proud to play a pivotal role in re-animating a historic part of our city."
Fergus Campbell, of Borderlands Brewery, said: "It's a significant moment for us.
"The shared vision between Borderlands Brewery and The Halston has culminated in an opportunity to introduce our new, high-quality product line to a wider audience in Carlisle and beyond."
Work on the 'Twisted Wheel' site has commenced, with West Walls Brewing Co set to open before the end of the year.
