MORE and more people are turning to ChatGPT for advice on where to go, so we asked for its recommendations on the best things to do in Carlisle with your family this summer.

An overall budget of £100 was set for the day, which allows room for manoeuvre on things such as food and destinations. But the AI-powered device was able to present as many as seven suggestions for just one day of fun.

The full list of plans can be found below.

1. Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day and ChatGPT certainly agrees, as they suggest starting with a 'delicious and affordable' breakfast at a local cafe or bakery. The Board & Elbow in Penrith is described as one great option - bit of a trek from Carlisle though...

2. After eating, ChatGPT suggests that it is time to head to Carlisle's city centre and take in some of the sights. The Carlisle Castle offers fascinating insights into the city's past with guided tours available. While the chatbot claimed that entry there was just £9, a visit to their website suggests that adults pay £14.50. This is the first sign to suggest that the program is not entirely reliable.

3. Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery is another staple of Carlisle and unsurprisingly this features on ChatGPT's list. With the summer holidays fast approaching, there will certainly be a wide range of activities and exhibitions for the whole family to enjoy.

4. While you, fortunately, don't have to wait until ChatGPT's say-so to have lunch, they recommend that as their fourth activity of the day, quoting budget-friendly eateries such as Greggs, Subway and Wetherspoon's as potential options.

5. Families with access to a car are then encouraged to drive a short distance of around 15 miles to Hadrian's Wall. Seeing the wall itself is free, but tickets to the museum or visitor centre could set you back a small fee.

6. The final activity of the day includes a visit to Bitts Park, where you can enjoy picturesque views, playgrounds, and riverside walks. Green spaces are a common theme throughout Cumbria and it is no surprise that ChatGPT wants visitors to take advantage of them in their suggested family day.

7. Finally, ChatGPT suggests that we can conclude their day with a 'hearty and affordable' dinner at a family-friendly establishment, with The Last Zebra highly recommended.

For a family of four or more, it seems unlikely that this budget would remain below £100, but in all, ChatGPT looks to have done a decent job in planning a day out for everyone to enjoy in Carlisle.
