PROGRESS is being made along the Carlisle Southern Link Road project, with more large developments to go ahead this month.
June marked significant progress in the introductory stages of the construction of the new road, which will connect Junction 42 of the M6 with the A595 at Newby West - helping deliver 10,000 new homes to St Cuthbert's Garden Village.
The project is an 8km road that will include four new roundabouts, five cycle bridges and four road bridges and a cycle path along the northern side along its full length.
Last month, the site saw the construction of some of the site compounds and the arrival of the site office cabins.
Earthworks continued to make steady progress, laying the groundwork for the new road.
This month, the Cumberland Council, alongside the main contractor Galliford Try Ltd and a team of local subcontractors, will embark on the construction of two out of the nine large bridge structures planned for the project.
Efforts are being made to minimise the impact on local traffic by creating crossing points along the route.
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities confirmed it will now provide £212 million for the project, with Cumberland Council paying the remainder.
