FOLLOWING on from our series of looking back at our villages and towns throughout the decades, today we land back in Wigton in the 1940's.
This was a time when NATO and the United Nations were created and Great Britain created the NHS under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Clement Attlee.
The 1940's dealt with life during and post World War Two, one of the photos show evacuees arriving at Wigton station in the year 1940.
During the war, there was an increased emphasis on food production to support the war effort. Farmers worked to increase yields and meet the demands for food supplies.
While Wigton itself was not a major target for bombings, there were instances of German aircraft dropping bombs in the wider Cumbria area. Air raid sirens and blackout measures were in place to protect residents from potential attacks.
