A golf club in Carlisle has been recognised as the best of its kind this year.

Stoneyholme Golf Club received the award for this year from the industry magazine Your Golfer.

Gary Edwards, golf development officer at the club, was chuffed to bits to receive the award, and explained the background to win it: “We put in an advert in Yorkshire Golfer, and then they came up to play the course.

“The man who came from the magazine did a report, and since then received some good footfall.

“Some people came up to play the course and after that they gave us the award.

“It is a great thing for everyone there, from the grounds staff to reception, it was a joint effort.”

Mr Edwards said this is the first award of its kind that the golf course received.
