Carlisle Youth Zone has officially launched its Lego competition for the third year running, as it aims to inspire a new generation of builders and architects.
The local club for kids has partnered with local architectural company Unwin Jones to launch the competition this year, after receiving more than 1000 entries from across the city for its 2022 edition.
Anyone under the age of 18 is challenged to design a houseboat, with the big prize of an Xbox on offer to the winner of each age category (six and under, 7-11, and 12-18).
Jez Marvin, Director at Unwin Jones Partnership said: "The Lego competition is now into its third year and we have been delighted by the quality of the previous entries which have been truly amazing.
"They showed a wealth of imaginative ideas in all age groups. Many of the builds were highly detailed, intricate, and clearly well thought out. There were some fantastic creations, many of which featured waste reduction and energy-saving ideas to help protect the environment, which was really encouraging. We can’t wait to see this year’s entries."
Carlisle Youth Zone is running Lego workshops throughout the summer holidays on weekday evenings and Saturdays, with more details available on their website.
Emma Rogerson, Senior Development Coordinator at Carlisle Youth Zone said: "Here at Carlisle Youth Zone, we’re passionate about providing opportunities for young people to take part in creative projects which ignite their imaginations and creativity, the Lego project does just that and we’re thrilled that CYZ Patrons Unwin Jones Partnership are working with us and sponsoring the competition again for 2023.
"I’m really looking forward to seeing the ideas young people come up with again this year. It’s such a popular competition and so many children get involved and take part."
Submissions for the competition can be made online via this form.
