Workington RNLI responded to a distress call today regarding a person in trouble at sea.
At approximately 1:30pm (July 28), the volunteer crews of the Dorothy May White and the John F Mortimer were mobilised.
The incident took place off the coast of Parton, and St Bees RNLI was also alerted.
Fortunately, a bystander had the courage to swim out to the distressed individual and successfully brought them back to shore.
This heroic passer-by then handed the person over to the Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and the North West Ambulance Service.
The lifeboats safely returned to the station by around 2:20pm.
