Firefighters have been busy training recently, in an exercise which has involved three prominent Cumbrian fire stations.

This particular exercise, dubbed 'exercise deluge,' brought together the dedicated crew members from Carlisle East Fire Station, Carlisle West Fire Station, and Penrith Fire Station.

This afternoon (July 31), these fire stations collaborated in a simulated scenario at Calor Gas in Willowholme Industrial Estate, aimed at preparing them for real-life emergencies.

The training exercise involved a staged incident where gas was accidentally released from a tanker truck during the filling process, leading to the ignition of the gas and resulting in a blazing fire.

The challenging situation further intensified as a 'casualty' was portrayed as trapped dangerously close to the tanker, adding an element of urgency and criticality to the exercise.

A spokesperson from Carlisle East Fire Station said: "Crews utilised main jets and breathing apparatus- along with the water deluge system on-site, to rescue the casualty, and bring the incident under control.

"Huge thanks to the staff at Calor Gas for their help in planning and running the exercise."
