YOUNG artists from Cumbria were delighted to see their work exhibited in London last month.

The collaborative artwork - Our Head and Heart - was exhibited in London as part of the national Saturday club takeover at Somerset House.

The young people, who created the piece together at a free weekly art club organised by the Studio Morland and led by artist Donna Campbell, visited the exhibition at Somerset House on Saturday, July 19 whilst attending their programme graduation at the nearby King’s College.

The artwork explored the internal tensions created by the wants and needs of our heads compared to our hearts, and was developed in textile artworks using fabric paints, silk painting, and embellishment techniques.

News and Star:

Donna Campbell, who led the group, said: "Being involved with the arts and creative young people keeps me positive about the future of our world.

"The members at our Saturday art club are talented, self-motivated, conscientious and full of inspiring ideas.

"They all have a future in the arts if they choose, and the arts can change the world! It has been an absolute pleasure to spend my Saturdays with this inspiring group of young people."

The students have also been featured in a national virtual exhibition, which includes a self-portrait created by each student. This exhibition can be viewed online indefinitely: https://show.saturday-club.org/2023/club/the-studio-morland

One student said: "This was an amazing and beautiful experience that I believe no one will forget."

Saturday art club 2023 was made possible by the Eden Arts and Culture Development Fund as well as Cumbria Community Foundation through the Holehird Trust Fund and Rowan Community First Fund.
