LEADERSHIP and inspiring future generations of business leaders were topics discussed with the executive chairman of a major Borders tourist attraction at a popular networking event.
The team from in-Cumbria business magazine welcomed John Holliday, former footballer, media boss and now executive chairman of Gretna Green, to the monthly networking event at The Halston Aparthotel in Carlisle on Thursday, July 27.
Mr Holliday took part in a Q&A with Newsquest Cumbria Regional Editor Joy Yates where he discussed resilience in business, as well as his football career and his vision for the major borders tourist attraction moving forward.
Claire Rutherford, Head of the Buying Team at Gretna Green, was also on hand to show some of the fantastic products available at the attraction, and the venue's retail offering.
She said: "People come to Gretna Green to get married or as a tourist destination and what we have found is that they really want to take a piece of Gretna Green home with them.
"We have been developing our own Gretna Green range and have a number of products in the range now."
John Holliday, executive chairman of Gretna Green, said: “It was a pleasure to be part of a gathering of aspiring professionals. If just one comment inspires others, then it was worthwhile. After all, ‘it’s not what you do, but what you make happen’.
“I believe that curiosity, nurturing a strong leadership mindset and embracing challenges are essential for personal and professional growth. With every obstacle comes an opportunity to learn and improve.”
Networkers were encouraged by Mr Holliday's 'amazing' vision for the popular tourist attraction.
Joy said: "It was an absolute honour to welcome John to our monthly in-Cumbria business magazine networking event at The Halston.
"John answered questions about his fascinating, stellar career and he provided our business audience with many takeaways around leadership and the next generation of leaders.
"It was also amazing to hear his plans and vision for Gretna Green. The in-Cumbria team is very grateful to John for taking time out of his hectic schedule to join our networkers."
The next in-Cumbria networking event will take place in association with Telfords Citroen, Carlisle, on Thursday, August 17 at Telfords Citroen, Grearshill Road, Kingstown, Carlisle.
