A Cumbrian charity has thanked Carlisle United and their fans for a fantastic response to their fundraising efforts at Brunton Park.
Blood Bikes Cumbria raised £649.21 in their collection at the ground on the opening day of the season.
The money will boost the charity’s vital service in delivering critical blood supplies and urgent specimens.
Their work supports the NHS and Great North Air Ambulance.
The charity’s chairman Jim White told the News & Star they were delighted with how their fundraising was supported at United’s ground.
“I’m absolutely delighted to announce that we managed to raise an incredible amount for Blood Bikes Cumbria at the first League One home game of the season,” he said.
“I can’t thank Carlisle United enough for the amazing opportunity to generate funds on what turned out to be a fabulous day in the fanzone.
“Both United and Fleetwood Town fans gave generously and it was great to see both sets of fans enjoying the pre-match atmosphere and getting along so well.
“The money raised will be put to good use and will allow us to operate our fleet of motorcycles and cars for three whole days this year.
“It will make a real difference.”
The fundraising came ahead of National Blood Bikes Awareness day this Friday.
Mr White added: “During difficult times, the good people of Cumbria have once again shown great kindness and have demonstrated their heartfelt generosity by supporting our life saving vital service.
“Thank you to all who gave so generously.”
