PLANS are in motion to bring a new restaurant and takeaway to Denton Holme, filling the space of a currently empty unit.

The change of use application for the former retail unit at 117A Denton Street was registered with Cumberland Council on August 9.

The existing site on the ground floor was previously home to a Spar.

The application was put forward by Mr Malik on behalf of B. Krishnan Nair.

The proposal also brings with it the prospect of bringing on 10 full-time employees and five part-time.

The Design and Access statement reads: "The proposed restaurant will provide a family friendly dining experience with family seating areas, providing healthy grilled food, as part of the new healthy style of living, something which is limited in the area and would be very successful.

"The changes to the existing building would be very successful which will help bring up the surrounding area and attract customers and other businesses.

"The proposal will serve the large local community which is residential and commercial.

"The restaurant will help regenerate the current building and help inject money back into the community by providing jobs to locals," it states.

Included in the plans is the installation of a new aluminium frame shopfront and extraction system.
