Carlisle Cathedral has earned international recognition after being named in the top 10% of worldwide attractions.
Tripadvisor awards its Travellers' Choice Award to businesses and attractions that are ranked in the top 10% of listings on its website.
Winners are determined based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings posted on Tripadvisor over a 12-month period, and consistently strong reviews have now seen Carlisle Cathedral earn that impressive achievement.
To be eligible for an award, a property, business, destination or point of interest must have been listed on Tripadvisor for at least 12 months, must receive a threshold number of reviews within the evaluation period of that award, and must maintain or exceed a minimum bubble rating on Tripadvisor.
The Revd Canon Michael Manley, Interim Dean and Canon Missioner at Carlisle Cathedral said: "We are delighted to have been given the accolade that we feature in the top 10% of tourist attractions worldwide. Thank you to every visitor who has taken the time to share your feedback on Tripadvisor and express your appreciation for all we offer at Carlisle Cathedral.
"We especially want to thank our devoted team of volunteers and staff who so warmly express our welcome for all and provide such an enjoyable experience for all who come, whether pilgrims, worshippers, or visitors."
Carlisle Cathedral is perhaps best known for its famous starry ceiling, which visitors can enjoy during the summer exhibition, rest under the stars.
Visitors to Carlisle Cathedral can also discover more than 900 years of history at its treasury exhibition, and enjoy its beautiful monastic gardens, award-winning café and unique gift shop.
The Anglican church is open daily and hosts morning and evening prayer sessions, while visitors can also experience the Angels View Tour and Hidden Lives of Books exhibition during the coming weeks.
