A Carlisle charity would enjoy a hugely successful weekend at the Dalston Show earlier this month, taking home more than £4500 in donations.
Volunteers from Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland are regular visitors to the region's country shows and this year the charity was rewarded for its efforts by NFU Carlisle.
The insurance broker would donate £3221 to the charity as recognition for its work in providing care for local people.
NFU agent Graham Holliday said: "We are very grateful for the wonderful work your charity is undertaking to support our community."
At Dalston Show, loyal and selfless volunteers of the charity collectively raised £1,364 by manning the refreshments tent, while others manned a display table within the David Allen tent, after the Carlisle company named Hospice at Home as its charity of the year.
Support from the community through buying raffle tickets and cups of tea helped the charity to allow those with life-limiting illnesses to choose to die at home where they feel more comfortable.
The success of these events can hinge on the availability of the volunteer base of Hospice at Home. The charity expressed its gratitude to its current volunteer pool but stressed that volunteer recruitment going forward is essential for its continued success.
The pandemic had a negative effect on volunteer numbers and they are keen to find new and dedicated individuals. They invite anyone who is interested in a number of roles to get in contact or visit one of their charity shops in Carlisle, Penrith, Wigton, Keswick, or Brampton for more information.
