CARLISLE MP John Stevenson has said he is 'dissapointed' in the demise of a local steel company, but remains hopeful the 43 people made redundant following it's administration will be able to find work in the city.

Over 40 staff at a long-established steel firm Border Stee'works Ctructures Ltd. based in Carlisle have been made redundant 'with immediate effect' after the administrators have been called into the company.

It was announced on Monday, August 21 that the companies 43 staff had been made redundant with immediate effect.

Carlisle MP John Stevenson said: “I am obviously disappointed to hear of the demise of Borderway Steelworks Structures and the loss of jobs that will go with it.

"I am however confident that the job market in Carlisle is quite buoyant and I hope all those now seeking work are successful in finding a suitable alternative as soon as practically possible.”

The administration has been caused by unsustainable financial and cash flow problems stemming from a marked downturn in contracts and rising operational costs.
