Carlisle bare-knuckle boxing champion Danny Christie is set for his next big fight in Newcastle.
The Currock fighter says he will make his fourth outing on the BKFC scene in the north east this autumn.
Christie had initially been expected to fight in Milton Keynes this month but said that event will no longer be going ahead.
Instead, British light-heavyweight champion Christie is being lined up for a top-of-the-bill contest on Tyneside in late November.
“The Milton Keynes card is cancelled, I was supposed to be headlining that card and fighting an American. But they couldn’t secure the opponent,” Christie said on his YouTube channel.
“There’s no better place to have the show replaced [than] Newcastle. No matter what show you put on at Newcastle, it will always sell out.
“They love fighting over there. It’s a proper fighting city.”
Christie’s opponent has not yet been confirmed but the Carlisle boxer says he has asked to face the best man BKFC can put forward.
He hopes the November fight, whose date and venue is yet to be announced, will further his aim eventually to take on world champion Lorenzo Hunt from the USA.
“I want somebody in the top five. I can’t get Lorenzo Hunt at present, he’s got cruiserweight commitments, and as far as I’m concerned, he is the man,” added Christie.
“If he wants to go to cruiserweight and pick and choose who he fights, that’s his business, he’s earned that right. He’s the poster boy for BKFC. I’ll get a crack at him before long. All I’ve got to do is keep knocking them out.
“I’m putting it out there. The BKFC already know – I’ve asked for the best available light-heavyweight on earth. Somebody in the top five. And I’ll fold them up.”
Christie has made an impressive impact on the BKFC scene with victories over Terry Brazier at Wembley Arena, Darren Godfrey in Newcastle and Anthony Holmes in Leeds.
His win against Holmes in April earned the 38-year-old the British title while last month he was moved up the world rankings to second in the list of contenders to Hunt’s crown.
