Capturing multinational aircraft action across the Lakes

Wally Civitico's recent expeditions to Honister Pass, Ullswater, and Dunmail Raise have proven to be a fruitful endeavour for the plane-spotter, as he snapped remarkable photographs of aircraft from the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) and the U.S. Air Force (USAF).

Like many, Wally's lens has been focused on the skies over Cumbria, which encompass Low Fly Area 17 (LFA17), one of the nation's 20 low-flying training zones.

This particular area has become a hotspot for aviation enthusiasts and photographers alike due to the spectacle of aircraft zipping through the mountainous terrains of the Lake District.

The USAF and RNoAF pictured are out practicing ahead of Cobra Warrior, a Royal Air Force-hosted multinational live-fly exercise held at the RAF station Waddington in the United Kingdom, from September 4 to 22, where they will also be landing and departing from Carlisle Airport.

Cobra Warrior is a regularly scheduled biannual exercise, deployed in the skies over England, Scotland, and the surrounding ocean. 

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is to participate for the first time in the exercise with them being joined by Denmark, Italy and The Netherlands along the way.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to once again train with all of our international partners in the region,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. William Parks, 480th Fighter Squadron commander at Spangdahlem AB. 

"This exercise and others like it are crucial to maintaining our readiness and continuing to hone our skills in so many areas."
