OWNERS of the Howard Arms in Carlisle have announced that it will close, leaving customers 'gutted'.
Dianne and Iain who have owned the pub for four 'very enjoyable years' have decided to call last orders at the Howard Arms whilst they concentrate on their other two Carlisle pubs, the Crown Inn, and the Milbourne Arms.
In a post on Facebook, the pair said: "It has been a tough four years for every pub in the country, with the impact of Covid restrictions, immediately followed by the cost of living crisis for our customers, ever-rising energy and hospitality costs and widespread staff shortages."
"Unfortunately, The Howard has suffered from the additional impact of the closure of many of our retail and office-based neighbours, compounded by access through the Lanes shopping centre being closed over at night, effectively distancing us from the rest of the town centre."
Both Iain and Dianne shared their achievements at the Howard since their move in August 2019. Howard Arms has a customer feedback rating of 4.5 and a Travellers Choice award.
"The pub is listed as Tripadvisor’s number one pub in Carlisle and has been for the last 18 months, and ranks within their top 12 per cent of restaurants in Carlisle.
The post on Facebook continued saying: "The good news for our loyal customers is that the team from the Howard will be transferring to our other two pubs to complement our existing teams and allow us to increase our trading hours at the Crown and the Milbourne.
"In particular, our brilliant chef, Sara Westbrook, will be serving up her famous homemade pies and other Howard classics at the Milbourne, so please come and visit her there.
"While we will be sorry to leave the Howard, we do so with many happy memories and we are looking forward to providing an even better customer experience at the Crown and the Milbourne, which are both doing well in the current environment."
The team at the Howards Arms shared their thanks for the support they have recieved over the last four years.
