A community-driven event at Hammonds Pond this weekend aims to promote well-being amongst the community.

The event, which will run from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday September 10, is free for all to get involved and promises lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

In addition to the fair rides and various activities, there will also be signposting and information available from community services, particularly focusing on mental health.

One of the highlights of the day will be a football match involving the Border City Greens football team, a club that provides support around mental health and weight loss through their love for the sport.

The Support through Sport initiative is being organised by Cumberland Council with the help of Carlisle United, Carlisle United Community Sports Trust, Mind and Border City Greens.

Cumberland Council communities and culture officer, Stephen Dunn, said: "It's bringing people together to have a good time, but at the same time, there's people there to give you good advice within that.

"There's a lot of serious issues around mental health and this week, we want to highlight Suicide Prevention Week.

"It's a growing thing in Carlisle where more and more partners are coming together to look at how we can creatively get involved to do things that are good for people and make them feel better about themselves and this is part of that," he said.

This will be the second of similar events to take place this summer, as Tubby FC took on Border City Greens at Whitehaven's Cumbria Sport Academy last month.
