A PRIMARY School pupil has raised over £1,000 for charity with a football-based challenge.

Six-year-old Neve Glendinning is a student at Brampton Primary School and undertook the 'Ball along the wall' challenge in aid of Children in Need on Sunday, September 10, raising £1,006 for the charity so far through her JustGiving page.

This challenge saw Neve dribble a football for around two and a half hours over a distance of 7.5 miles between Carlisle Airport and Central Field, with this being the second time she has completed the 'ball along the wall' after another successful 7.5 mile dribble between Birdoswald and Walton last year.

Thanks to her latest triumph, Neve has now raised over £2,500 for charity over the years, with her fundraising exploits beginning when she was just four years old and completed 10 laps of Talkin Tarn.

Speaking with immense pride, Neve's mum Hayley Glendinning described how her daughter has always been trying to help those in need with charity challenges.

"At only 6 years old, Neve has never been shy of a challenge," She said.

"She has shown dedication to a fantastic cause.

"Not only did she complete her challenge she went straight after to compete in a football tournament with her team Northbank U8 girls.

"Neve is a true champion and we cannot describe how proud we are of her. Seeing her achieve all this so young and inspiring others is incredible.

"We know she will continue to strive towards her dream of playing for England.

"She told us she loves raising money for Children in need because 'I want to make other children smile'."

Hayley was also keen to sincerely thank the Crosby-on-Eden's Stag Inn for their support with the challenge after they provided banners and refreshments for the dribbling journey.

Neve's headteacher at Brampton Primary School, Chris Armstrong also commented on the six-year-old's 'inspirational act of kindness'.

He said: "Neve has shown such great determination to complete this selfless challenge.

"I’m so impressed with the way she combined her hobby to do something positive for others.

"The smile on her face at the end was priceless and I can’t believe she still had the energy to go and play in a football tournament afterwards.

"The whole school community of Brampton Primary are incredibly proud of her for her inspirational act of kindness."
