A CASTLE in Cumbria has become the latest destination for parkrunners after launching its first-ever event last weekend.
Hundreds of runners travelled to Muncaster Castle on Saturday, September 16 for the 5km challenge, with the castle grounds and the views overlooking the River Esk proving to be a big hit with visitors.
Parkrun was first launched in 2004 and now has more than 2,000 locations across six continents, with Muncaster Castle becoming the latest on that list earlier this month.
The event was set up by the local community as a way to celebrate the local area, socialise and keep fit.
Ewan Frost-Pennington, director of operations at Muncaster Castle, said: "I loved having a local parkrun where I lived before, so what better than having one very close to home here at Muncaster?
"I think regular meet-ups are really important for small communities and the parkrun is perfect for this.
"Both my parents are fully behind it and are looking forward to getting their running shoes on."
Parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event that takes place every Saturday at 9am.
