A FORMER railway station in the Eden Valley, which has been converted into a four-bedroom house, is on the market at offers over £1.4 million.
Station House, which was once a station on the Eden Valley and Stainmore Railway lines, sits on 4.5 acres of land and the estate also has 14 acres of woodland.
The sale also includes a one-bedroom converted signal box, which retains original features, and further accommodation in the converted weigh office.
Built in 1860 as the railway station serving Cliburn and the surrounding rural areas, Station House is Victorian architecture with sandstone mullioned windows and a plethora of original features. For example, Victorian cast iron pillars have been incorporated into one of the bedrooms and the main bathroom.
The railway station closed in the 1950s. It was bought in 1964 and the main building was converted into accommodation. The current owners bought the site in 2004 and have carried out a complete renovation of Station House, the signal box and the weigh office.
Highlights of Station House include the en-suite master bedroom, which was part of the original ladies waiting room for the station and has views out to the garden and paddock to the rear. There is a dining room, kitchen diner, lounge and garden room with a stone-flagged floor, timber roof and a feature timber wall.
The interior of the one-bedroom signal box features an upside-down layout with ample natural light streaming through the original windows. The cosy living space boasts some exposed red brick walls.
The sandstone former weigh office, which features a lounge and mezzanine bedroom, has a decked seating area with an outlook onto woodland.
Both the signal box and the weigh office are currently used as holiday lets. There is also a small certified location caravan site, which is also included in the sale and is affiliated with The Motorhome and Caravan Club. This area is also home to a BK Bluebird Sheraton 2006 static caravan.
The estate also boasts a large barn and a Dutch barn, which has been converted into a stable, which is currently home to three horses.
