A PARANORMAL investigator has named Carlisle Castle as one of the top places he’s visited for ghostly experiences.

Tony Ferguson, a 'ghost whisperer' from the New Forest, visited the castle last week during a tour of the county.

He walked through areas not often occupied last week, September 11, and documented his visit on Facebook.

He claims to have heard several voices, some of which told him to get out, and a woman laughing and swearing at him.

“30 seconds in, there’s a male voice saying ‘go’, it was caught again at 2:18," he said.

“It had a Scottish accent, and looking into the history of the castle made it quite interesting."

For hundreds of years, Carlisle Castle has been a principal fortress for England during wars with Scotland before the two nations reached peace.

Tony, who is a personal trainer by trade, got into ghost whispering after experiencing paranormal activity at his grandfather’s house when he was growing up, he said.

He added that this sparked his drive to search for the truth in these experiences, and when he got into his 20s, he decided he wanted to document these experiences.

Tony said that he doesn’t go on other people’s accounts to decide if there are ghosts somewhere, he makes that decision if and when he experiences it personally and documents it.

He continued; “At 4:59 we heard meowing, this was caught at the headquarters of the castle.

“I then went and asked the man who let me in if he had any cats on the premises, he looked at me oddly and said no.

“This cat was caught in the ring with us as we were calling out, not sure where that came from. I don’t know if they had a cat there at some stage.

“We also heard a female laughing and swearing, at 4:29secs, and there was also a male voice at 3:29secs, no idea what he said because he had a deep male Scottish accent.

“We also heard footsteps walking towards us, which is strange because the castle's empty.”

While in Cumbria, Tony also went to the Cathedral Cave in the Lake District where he said he heard children’s voices.

Despite his frequent adventures, he still gets uncomfortable when on such travels.

“I get uncomfortable a few times, like in the dungeon area of the castle, I felt very sick, but I'm quite level-headed when it comes to this. I've been doing it for quite a long time.

“Nothing major has happened to me, it’s just hearing things, and seeing things, but I hear more than I see,” he said.

On why he believes spirits haunt places, instead of going to some sort of other world or afterlife, he said: “I tend to get a lot of voices saying ‘get out’, and depending on what time period the ghost is from, that was their home.

“I believe it's a place they're fond of or something traumatic happened there and it's kept them there, or it's their home and they don't want people there.

“I believe everywhere is haunted, but there are places that are more easy to find them than not because of noise pollution and other activity.

“Some spirits simply want to stay here, or they're worried that if they do go on they'll go to a worse place.”

Tony concluded by naming Carlisle Castle in the top 24 places he’s visited in terms of paranormal activity.
