One of Carlisle Southern Link Road's bridges, the Peastree Farm Bridge, has begun formation with its initial structural concrete pour.

The significant development was announced by Carlisle's MP John Stevenson alongside Cumberland Council.

The permanent bridge will facilitate Peastree Farm's ongoing operations and guarantees a safe crossing for the cows between the farm and fields for the foreseeable future.

The project is an 8km road that will include four new roundabouts, five cycle bridges and four road bridges and a cycle path along the northern side along its full length.

The road will connect Junction 42 of the M6 with the A595 at Newby West - helping deliver 10,000 new homes to St Cuthbert's Garden Village.

This phase of the project, which is now in its fourth month, comes on the back of the project achieving significant markers indicating a successful progression with 17 per cent of the total earthworks completed.

Additional achievements this month include forming three main site compounds, laying 760 meters of drainage inclusive of nine manholes and one headwall, as well as clearance of the invasive species Himalayan Balsam.

Anticipated actions over the past month included the commencement of Caldew Crossing's construction, the continuation of the Durdar Road Bridge foundations, with Galliford Try Ltd, the principal contractor.
