The building which contains House of Fraser in Carlisle City Centre is up for sale.
The prominent site on Carlisle’s high street is available to purchase for £750,000 after a previous attempt of a sale at £1.25 million fell through earlier this month.
The site has been listed by allsop who said that the shop had “potential for redevelopment and a variety of alternate uses including residential.”
It is understood that House of Fraser had not been paying any rent to the current owners and that the unit was entirely let on a licence agreement to a subsidiary entity of Frasers Group Plc.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Chamber of Commerce said: “This is a key site in the city centre and has become something of an eyesore, hopefully someone will buy it and turn what is a large and central building to good use and improve the look and feel of the city centre in doing so.”
The news comes at a difficult period for Carlisle’s high street with many high-profile shops currently standing empty.
Cumbria Chamber of Commerce had previously called for ‘robust action’ to help save the high street which has been dealt another blow in recent weeks with the news of Wilko’s demise.
House of Fraser has been contacted for comment.
