HUNDREDS of runners descended on Carlisle this weekend to take part in ‘Cumbria’s leading half marathon’ - with participants saying the event is ‘always a great atmosphere’ for all involved.
The Great Cumbrian Run took place today, October 1 with hundreds of runners taking to the city to take part in the 39th year of the event.
The half marathon, which is managed by Better and Sport in Action, saw runners set off at 9am from Swifts Bank, behind the Sands, heading into the city centre before heading out to the local villages of Linstock and Brunstock.
The race then headed back to north of the city through Houghton before finishing in front of the Grandstand at the Sheepmount Athletics Stadium.
It is understood over 600 runners took part in the 13.1-mile race, with some saying they had enjoyed the new route.
One of the run’s finishers, Carina Taylor said: “This was my third Cumbrian Run. Theres always a great atmosphere, I really enjoy them, it’s very friendly, everyone looks out for you.
“The new course was a lot flatter and therefore faster than the old one and a lot more scenic.”
