IN ORDER to raise funds for an alpaca and llama sanctuary, a woman has climbed six peaks dressed as a llama with a 22kg weighted vest on.

Nicole Benson committed to the challenge with hopes of raising £8,000 for a barn repair at Alpacaly Ever After's Basecamp North Lakes.

Nicole, a guide at Alpacaly Ever After, took on the Newlands Horseshoe, a route that traverses the peaks of Maiden Moor, High Spy, Dalehead Tarn, Dale Head, and Robinson - making up for an eleven-mile trek.

The barn in need of fixing provides a warm shelter to a group of alpacas and llamas, affectionately known as the Woolly Army.

Managing director Emma Smalley said: "The entire barn floor becomes flooded and is completely unusable for storing food and keeping our lovely alpacas and llamas safe and dry.

"Repairing this would allow us more indoor space for the Woolly Army during the rainy seasons, allow us to store more food, reduce our food spending, and most excitingly, will enable us to offer indoor meet and greets so you can hang out with the Woolly Army no matter the weather," she said.

On the back of the fundraiser, the team hopes they will be able to repair the barn in time for winter.

Not content with merely walking the 11 miles, Nicole committed to carrying a 22kg weighted jacket during her arduous trek, representing the maximum load a llama can bear.

"She was dressed as a llama because she is an unusual kind of person whose idea of fun is something that most people would call punishment," Emma said.

"We are so grateful for your support, which allows us to continue our mission of rescuing alpacas and llamas, giving them a caring home for life, and making the outdoors and these amazing animals accessible to all.

"Please share our campaign with your friends, and family, and on social media to help us repair this space," Emma said.
