Cumbria's Museum of Military Life is set to host an informative talk about the British Army's role in the American War of Independence.

The scheduled date for the event is October 10, hosted by speaker Major Paul Knight.

The topic, 'Preparing for War: The British Army and the American War of Independence,' will be focused on interpreting the capabilities of the 34th and 47th Regiments during the first three years of the conflict.

Major Knight will describe an army that quickly became proficient in amphibious, woodland, and arctic warfare.

Knight's talk will address a common narrative of British soldiers and officers being depicted as veterans or unthinking automatons, led by incompetent leaders.

He will ask who these soldiers and officers were, how they were trained and equipped, the suitability of their training for the war they fought and how adaptable they were to the realities that they encountered.

Major Knight, an army reserve officer presently working in historical analysis at the Land Warfare Centre, boasts a PHD in history from the University of Liverpool.

He has authored five military history books, with his latest focusing on the 47th Foot during the American War of Independence.

Guests are encouraged to secure their seats by booking their tickets now.

Tickets are priced at £5 each, though the price jumps slightly to £6 at the door.
