PEOPLE are being encouraged to share their treasured memories and family heirlooms from a past local employer.

Handpicked Productions are holding four pop-up events with the community urged to share their memories of Sekers Fabrics, based in Whitehaven.

When the factory closed its doors in 2006, it fell to the employees to preserve as much of the factory and its design history as possible.

Handpicked now want to hear about objects with stories to tell – whether it be curtains made with Sekers fabric, some of the factory’s tools hanging in your shed, or even repurposed old piece of its machinery?

The events will be held this month at Rosehill Theatre, that was famously created by Sekers founder Sir Nicholas Sekers on the Friday, October 13 and Friday, October 20.

Further events will be held at The Beacon Museum on Saturday, October 14 and Saturday, October 21. Both sessions run from 10-4pm and refreshments will be provided.

This is the beginning of a two-year Heritage Lottery Funded project that will accumulate with a local exhibition and digital archive that will preserve these memories and stories for future generations.
