Friday the 13th might be considered an unlucky day in Western superstition but it was my lucky day this October as I headed to Cumbria Roast Company to celebrate National Yorkshire Pudding Day.
The Carlisle city centre business opened its doors back in October 2022 and has enjoyed an incredibly busy first year, with some Sundays unsurprisingly proving to be a very busy day for owners Pamela and David Haddock.
Having previously worked as a nurse and a head chef, the couple would pass each other like ships in the night but now they get to work together, creating incredible Yorkshire pudding wraps and roast dinners that are made with love.
It seems the general public wasn't as keen to celebrate National Yorkshire Pudding Day as I was on Friday, but that allowed for a lovely chat with both Pamela and David as they put together my roast beef wrap, minus the horseradish.
Living with a vegetarian means I've been subject to some (still good) vegetarian gravy with my recent roast dinners, so I watched on with glee as David heaped on a generous serving of luxurious beef gravy with my wrap.
As a proud northerner, the rich, flavourful gravy was akin to how I imagine the nectar of the gods would have tasted, and I was especially delighted when Pamela passed on an extra pot to take home with me.
My wrap also included an excellent selection of vegetables including red cabbage, green beans, and carrots, as well as some stuffing, all of which perfectly complemented the melt-in-your-mouth beef.
For £7.25, you simply cannot go wrong with this wrap, as it combines all the elements of a traditional roast dinner inside a perfectly cooked Yorkshire pud, with my only regret being that I didn't ask for potatoes or pigs-in-blankets on the side.
David suggested that some customers have been in every day since they opened their doors nearly a year ago, and given the incredible taste, service, and price, it is easy to see why.
If you haven't been in already, then the Cumbria Roast Company is a must-try.
