STUDENTS at Brampton Primary School are taking part in a walking challenge to raise awareness and funds for Hedgehogs.
The pupils at the local primary school are taking part in the Big Wild Walk Challenge throughout October.
The challenge will involve each child walking around 2 miles, meaning the school will walk over 350 miles altogether, which is the average distance a hedgehog might walk in a night to find food.
As part of the challenge, the children will be raising money for Hedgehogs for the Wildlife Trust and the Primary School has also teamed up with Brampton2Zero, the local group that is seeking to reduce Brampton's carbon footprint to zero
This partnership also involved Lisa Bennington and Kathy Arthur from Brampton2Zero giving a presentation to the school's pupils about why the Hedgehog population is declining and how they could help.
Brampton Primary School headteacher Chris Armstrong said: "We really want our children to care for their community and show awareness and empathy towards all its inhabitants.
"This project has encouraged the children to be active and look more closely at the surroundings they encounter every day while trying to make a positive difference to them.
"Hopefully, we’ll help to bring a few more Hedgehogs back to the area too."
