A Carlisle charity would enjoy an extremely successful first-ever fundraiser last week, bringing in more than £1000.
Carlisle Foodbank provides emergency food aid for people in crisis who have been identified and referred by agencies working in the community.
Amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, the charity is incredibly busy, and helped 850 people during the month of September, something that simply wouldn't be possible without the ongoing support and donations of local businesses and people.
As winter and Christmas also approaches, the charity is appealing for donations to help those in need.
On Saturday, October 14, Carlisle Foodbank hosted its first-ever fundraiser at Morton Manor Community Centre, raising an impressive £1256.
Stephanie Humes, manager at Carlisle Foodbank, said: "It was the first one we’ve ever done, which was exciting. It was very good and very successful. There were 107 people who attended on the night, and we made £1256. It’s absolutely amazing.
"We also asked people to bring some food donations on the night, so we ended up with three trolleys full, which is also amazing.
"This wouldn’t be possible without the support of some incredible businesses, who got behind us and made everything possible."
Susan Moxon and North Dakota, whose drummer is a volunteer with Carlisle Foodbank, performed on the night.
After such a successful debut fundraiser, it is unlikely to be the last of its kind, with Stephanie confirming that future events are already 'in the pipeline.'
Carlisle Foodbank has various collection points around Carlisle for easy delivery.
