A NEW art group in Carlisle is providing a space for artists of all backgrounds to come together and collaborate.
SoMo Creation was created by Fine Art graduates Sophie Steadman and Molly Hughes in September 2022, although the duo have been working together since November 2021.
The new group is a product of the pressure and isolation experienced by both Sophie and Mollie and aims to provide support and guidance for other local artists who are looking for help with their own artistic journey.
They said: "Collaboration and community is our core principle, wanting to uplift our peers and create a network of artists.
"We believe that the art world can sometimes seem hostile and competitive to a newly graduated or self-taught artist."
The pair also recently began a residency at the University of Cumbria where they are able to create and develop relationships with students and put SoMo into action as they assist energizing artists in finding their place and navigating the art scene.
Going forward, the pair hope that they can continue to create a supportive and inclusive space for artists regardless of their backgrounds and disciplines.
Mollie and Sophie are also hoping the collective will have the effect of bringing people together and creating a space where ideas can blossom into more events, exhibitions, and other projects in the region.
