After already responding to over 1,700 incidents this year, the air ambulance service is appealing for public support.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), an NGO not funded by the government, is calling for the public's help in raising £8.5m annually needed to continue operating.

To help praise the money GNAAS initiated a ‘Ready for Anything’ raffle to assist in funding their operations.

The draw, scheduled for December 8, encourages participation with an enticing highest prize of £10,000.

With less than two months left to join, the charity remains £25,000 short of their ambitious £100,000 goal.

Andy Mawson, director of operations at GNAAS, said: “We are responding to more and more incidents due to the expansion of our service, and we are fully committed to delivering 24/7 care to people in need across the region.

“We strongly believe that everyone should have access to hospital-standard care, no matter what time of day it is, but this is only achievable with the help and support of the public.

“Unfortunately, due to the cost-of-living crisis, raising funds for our charity has become increasingly challenging. One of the ways people can support us is by taking part in our raffle, which has a top prize of £10,000.”

Since the charity's inception in May 2023, GNAAS has played an invaluable role for 21 years, providing essential life-saving critical care in the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria, and the Isle of Man.

The service operates continuously 24/7 in the North East and four nights per week in Cumbria.

Their future aspirations involve extending this 24/7 availability across all regions, increasing their critical patient care capabilities significantly.

People can buy £1 raffle tickets to take part in the fundraising effort and potentially win prizes including £10,000, a Lake District break worth over £1,000, or a £500 cash prize.

Tickets can be acquired via the GNAAS website (www.gna.as/raffle_2023 ) or by calling the their phone number on 01325 487263.
