A WORKING men’s club in Workington have raised almost £2000 to support one on West Cumbria’s most beloved charities.
A group of members at the Senhouse Street Working Men’s Club in Workington have raised £1,893.90 for much loved West Cumbrian charity Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
The events are organised by Janice Bond and Doreen Bulman who first started fundraising for the organisation 12 years ago.
The club have hosted two afternoon teas throughout the last year with Janette Fearon performing at one of the events and another being hosted by Just Steve, the group also hosted a special Keith Ray charity evening in memory of the popular Workington singer.
Speaking about the events, Janice said: “It’s been harder this year than any year because I think because everybody is struggling themselves, we have had some great donations from people with vouchers and things like that.
“When we set off, we started doing it because one of the lasses in the club died of cancer, and there was five of us the other died and there was only me and Doreen left to carry it on, all of the money stays in West Cumbria through Hospice at Home so it’s a good cause and just nice for us to do our bit.”
The organisers wished to thank all of those who have donated, attended and worked to help out in making the events happen.
Janice said: “For a la’l club it’s good really isn’t it, and if it wasn’t for people giving us prizes and the people coming to buy tickets, we just couldn’t have done it without them.
“Everyone’s done their own bit, both Sheila’s, Lorraine, Pat and Denise have been selling tickets and doing the bingo, the lasses all help on the day so we are just thankful for all the help we get off them as well.”
