THE Cumbria Police Rural Crime Team has been dealing with reports of livestock attacks.
A spokesperson said: "Last weekend we received three reports of livestock attacks where sheep sadly died as a result of their injuries.
"These were in the Lakes areas of Patterdale and Coniston. We appeal to both locals and tourists to help prevent this avoidable suffering.
"Livestock worrying is an offence under the Dogs Protection of Livestock Act 1953. Penalties can include a £1,000 fine.
"Under certain circumstances, dogs can be shot by the farmer, and police can seize dogs where the owner cannot be traced.
"Your dog doesn't need to physically attack livestock for the offence to be made out, merely chasing can cause distress and lead to death of livestock. These incidents are distressing for everyone involved.
"Your dog is your responsibility and we would always advise to keep your dog under control and on a lead around livestock."
