Carlisle Racecourse are promising a "quality" field for this weekend's Colin Parker Memorial Chase.

The Durdar venue will see a number of exciting prospects run in the prestigious race.

And the course's general manager Helen Willis says Sunday's racing has plenty to look forward to.

“We’re so proud and lucky to host such a fantastic race which always produces a quality field of racehorses that travel from all over the country to run here," she said.

“This year’s entries certainly don’t disappoint, and we’re thrilled to have so many exciting prospects running here that will hopefully have big seasons ahead of them.

“This year’s Randox Grand National Winner, Corach Rambler, started his season at Carlisle in this very race last year, proving that the race is a great early season target for trainers with big plans for the months ahead.”

The feature race on Colin Parker Raceday includes last year's winner Beauport in the field of six, as well as Bill Baxter, a second-season chaser who looks set to return to Aintree later in the season for another go around the iconic Grand National Fences.

It will be Bill Baxter’s return to the racetrack following his victory in the Topham Handicap Chase at the Aintree Festival in April.

His trainer Warren Greatrex said: “He is only seven and there is every chance he will keep on improving.

"If he went and won the Colin Parker, and dotted up, then he might be better than I think he is. I suspect there will be a few more ready than him in the Colin Parker, but he will go there fit. However, he will improve for the run.”

Monbeg Genuis, Bass Rock, Thunder Rock and Mahler Mission complete the field in Carlisle Racecourse’s feature race of the Jumps Season.

Commenting on Mahler Mission’s prospects in the race, trainer John McConnell said: “The track should play to his strengths, and it is a good starting point for the season. I don’t think he is that slow either, even though he stays.

"They are lovely fences at Carlisle so it is the perfect starting point for him.”

The first race of Sunday’s card, The Beaumont Novices’ Hurdle, gets underway at 12.45pm while the last runners and riders will go to post at 4.15pm.

Another popular element of The Colin Parker Memorial Chase Day is the return of the Lakeland Trial Hound Demonstration which will take place around the track before racing begins.

Carlisle’s Retraining of Racehorses ambassador, Duke of Navan, will also be in attendance on the day by the parade ring waiting for meet and greets opportunities with fans.
