A MAN accused of controlling and coercive behaviour towards his former wife will no longer stand trial after the prosecution offered no evidence.
Ian Chambers, 54, of Springfield Grove, Whitehaven, had denied the offence, which was alleged to have taken place in Whitehaven between December 2015 and May 2021.
It was alleged he had repeatedly or continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive, including two or more acts of violence.
Chambers had been due to stand trial in February but during a hearing at Carlisle Crown Court on October 20, the prosecution offered no evidence.
A not guilty verdict has now been entered and the trial vacated.
