The Labour candidate for Carlisle has praised Rishi Sunak's decision to sack the home secretary, Suella Braverman.

Ms Braverman had been heavily criticised after calling the met police 'biased' when it came to dealing with protestors.

Clashes broke out over the weekend in London round the cenotaph between far right protestors and the police.

James Cleverly is the new home secretary and has been replaced at the foreign office by former PM,  David Cameron in a move which shocked most in Whitehall.

“Suella Braverman’s behaviour was so far beyond the pale that even Rishi Sunak found what little backbone he has, and sacked her," said Julie Minns.

"But no one should forget that Sunak chose to appoint Braverman as his Home Secretary just days after she was forced to resign after breaking the ministerial code.

"Sunak has consistently shown he has neither the strength nor the judgement to be Prime Minister, and it’s time the people had a chance to reshuffle the government.”
