WITH digital shopping booming ahead of the Christmas period, the world's biggest online retailer has completed its seasonal recruitment - filling 'around' 50 seasonal roles at its depot north of Carlisle. 

The online shopping giant Amazon, located on Woodlands Industrial Storage Estate in Longtown, has completed its seasonal recruitment in line with the company's national approach of bringing on 15,000  employees ahead of the festive season. 

Within the 50 roles, new employees have been recruited as seasonal sortation employees for the delivery station. 

This year it was announced the minimum starting pay for frontline operations employees at Amazon will rise to between £11.80 and £12.50 per hour, depending on location.

Packages destined for Amazon customers over the Christmas period will be shipped to the Longtown delivery station and distributed to the array of drivers on hand. 

Independent delivery companies are in charge of bringing in the drivers, as part of the depot's service partners who deliver parcels on behalf of the retailer. 

A spokesperson confirmed they are still actively seeking drivers within these roles ahead of the Christmas period.

 John Boumphrey, Amazon UK country manager, said: "We prepare year-round for the festive season, so we’re also excited to have more than 15,000 seasonal positions available this year to help delight our customers.

"We look forward to welcoming back colleagues who return year after year to work at Amazon along with many who will join the seasonal team for the first time.”

In a similar fashion, in October this year, Royal Mail sought Royal Mail over 58 temporary workers at its Carlisle Mail Centre located on Junction Street.

Temporary positions across a variety of shifts will be available until early January 2024.

Carlisle's DPD, in Kingmoor Park, is also actively seeking 3.5T delivery drivers on the run-up to their busiest time of year, according to their job listings.
