THE Museum Inn in Carlisle recently came to the rescue of The West Cumbria Dyslexia Association class when they suddenly found themselves 'homeless'.

Julie Southwold at The Museum Inn on Moorhouse road in Carlisle kindly offered her function room at the Inn for the WCDA to run their classes for dyslexic children.

Julie who is renowned for her community fundraising events, said: “This is such an important class for children who are struggling with reading and writing, and I just had to do something to help.”

“I believe that community should support and help each other, and what better cause than education.”

WDCA recently found themselves without a location to teach from, Lisa Benson, lead teacher  said: “It has been a stressful time trying to find a new location for our classes”

“We really didn’t want to have to close down our classes because so many children rely on our support to get them through school.”

The WDCA launched their first Carlisle Saturday classes in 2019 at The Youth Zone.

Viv Tregidga, Chair of WCDA said: “I remember that first Saturday when we launched our classes in Carlisle how grateful parents were.”

“There was one mother in tears with relief at getting the help her child needed.  Seeing very unhappy children arrive that day, not wanting to go back into a classroom environment was upsetting.  But then seeing those same children come out of our class with huge smiles on their faces was fabulous. I will never forget it.”
