Julia Aglionby, who was recently selected as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Penrith & Solway, met with residents in Dalston to hear about their concerns.

Although currently part of the constituency of Carlisle, the redrawing of the boundaries means that Dalston and Burgh-by-Sands will be in the constituency of Penrith & Solway at the next General Election.

“While Dalston is a thriving village many essential services are under pressure.” Julia commented;

“Too many residents have no mobile phone signal and so worry about communication links when power cuts happen now their land line is digital.

"In addition, transport links have declined as bus services into Carlisle have been cut back. This combined with the severing of the cycle lane while the new southern bypass is being built create real barriers to accessing Carlisle.”

Other issues residents asked Julia to consider raised the benefits of introducing assisted dying provisions, and reforming planning to retrofit insulation and energy saving in houses in conservation areas.

Julia is holding her next Meet the Candidate event in Cockermouth on Monday, November 20 at The Vicky at 7pm
