A world leading expert about the life of author, Alfred Wainwright is to deliver a talk about the iconic writer in aid of a local mountain rescue team (CMRT).

This special Wainwright event is for the CMRT in appreciation for their tireless and unwavering dedication to saving lives in the mountains for the last 70 years.

A lifelong love of the outdoors and admiration for Alfred Wainwright inspired Yorkshire-born engineer Chris Butterfield to build an archive to honour the world-famous fell walker and safeguard his legacy.

Assisted by his wife, Priscilla, Chris has amassed an extensive private collection of Wainwright material and created a popular Facebook group, Alfred Wainwright Books & Memorabilia, and a website.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team recently made it possible for Wainwright’s former publisher and close friend, Andrew Nichol, 91, to pay his respects to Wainwright by the shore of Innominate Tarn on Haystacks.

All proceeds from this event at 2pm on December 9 at the mountain rescue base will be donated to CMRT.
