Police have made 12 arrests and recovered numerous vehicles as part of a recently launched unit, according to a senior figure.

Cumbria’s chief constable Rob Carden said the rural crime team, launched in September, is showing success and progress.

He said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the unit made 12 arrests, and recovered ‘numerous quad bikes, vans, trailers, tractor GPS units, and a car’, which he added was ‘growing reassurance to rural communities and very uncertain times for contestants (thieves)’.
