OUR readers have responded to a Nostalgia story looking back at the history of Littlewood's department store.
The shop was very popular in Carlisle at one time and many of our readers shared their fond memories of the store.
Littlewoods Pools was founded by John Moores in Liverpool in 1923.
The business adopted the name of one of Moores’ original partners, Colin Henry Littlewood. In 1932, it expanded to include mail-order retailing, organised through local clubs.
The subsidiary Littlewoods Mail Order Stores Ltd was formed in 1937, and the first outlet opened on Waterloo Road in Blackpool.
Littlewood's stores were similar to British Home Stores (BHS), selling a variety of low-cost clothing and household goods.
Julie Kevan Morgan said: "My lovely nana used to get me the tall jelly desserts in the 70s in the cafe."
Sara Seabrook said: "My grandma worked there, we used to go to the Christmas parties and was in a few of the fashion shows in store. I loved going to the cafe too."
Tracy Morris said: "Remember going with my mam for jumpers and cardigans and going to the cafe, did a lovely breakfast."
Tina Nunn said: "Yes, everyone used to leave prams at the front door to go to the food hall."
Carlisle was a busy place for business in the 1960s, with its busy covered market, cattle marts in Earl Street and Botchergate, and a variety of building projects in the city centre.
