A PROPOSED motion to make north Cumbria officially classed as a place of sanctuary for refugees was withdrawn at the last minute.
It was due to be discussed at Tuesday's (November 21) meeting of Cumberland Council at the Civic Centre in Carlisle.
Councillors Helen Tucker (Cockermouth North, Labour) and Helen Davison (Belah, Green Party) submitted the motion which proposes such a move for the council.
However, when the time came to debate the proposal Cllr Tucker said she wanted to withdraw the motion following the recent announcement over the legality of the proposal of transporting refugees to Rwanda.
