A POLICE constable who rescued a woman attempting to take her own life before giving immediate medical attention has been commended by the chief constable.
PC Adrian Golbourn responded to concerns for the welfare of a woman in the Appleby area in June 2022.
Upon arrival, he assessed the situation and the seriousness of the risk before swiftly deciding to use his police powers to gain rapid entry to the address.
Once inside he found a woman in the process of attempting to take her own life.
PC Golbourn was able to get the choking woman safely to the ground and remove the ligature from around her neck before immediately commencing first aid, all whilst providing urgent medical assistance updates via his police radio.
Inspector Sarah Hodkinson nominated PC Golbourn for the commendation.
Insp Hodkinson said: "PC Golbourn's swift actions under pressure undoubtedly saved a life that day.
"The calmness he showed, combined with the decisiveness of his actions, was key in achieving such a positive outcome.
"Police officers never know what situation they may face each time they come on shift. PC Golbourn could easily have been overawed by the situation he faced but instead, he intervened without hesitation to save a life."
