Police are investigating an assault which caused the victim serious injuries.

Police were contacted shortly after 7.30pm on November 24 by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to a report of a man suffering serious injuries in the rear car park of the Devonshire Arcade in Penrith.

The assault is believed to have happened between 6.20pm and 6.40pm.

The victim, who is described as in his 20s, around 5ft 9ins, with short, dark hair, and was wearing a black shiny puffer jacket, dark-coloured top, blue jeans and white Adidas trainers, was taken to hospital.

A spokesperson from Cumbria police said: “Inquiries are ongoing to fully establish the circumstances of the incident.

“Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and are particularly keen to speak to three women who may have witnessed the incident and be able to assist with the investigation.

“Police would like to hear from two women described as being white and around 40-60 years of age. Both were wearing blue coats.

“One had a yellow handbag.

“Police would also like to hear from another woman, aged around 20-30 years of age. 

“She is described as being slim, with brown hair in a ponytail and was wearing a green/grey Bench hoody with black trousers and white trainers.

“All are believed to have been in the car park at the time of the assault.”
